5 little ducks - The lyrics

Hi dear reader,

In my last page, I was talking about my day working on that song "The 5 Little ducks".

And then I realized that maybe some of you don't even know what is that song.
(to be honest, I was like you, 2 months ago:)
For those who don't have the chance to know this amazing song, here are the lyrics:
I let you judge, and I leave you some time to study the deep meaning and the philosophical sense of that story.:)

Five little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack"
But only four little ducks came back.

Four little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack"
But only three little ducks came back.

Three little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack"
But only two little ducks came back.

Two little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack"
But only one little duck came back.

One little duck went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack"
But none of those little ducks came back.

Mother duck went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mother Duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack"
And all of the five little ducks came back.

  1. I just heard this song - I'm at a public terminal in a library, with a kids group singing songs elsewhere. It suddenly hit me that the lyrics sounded rather sinister. I wondered if "over the hills and far away" referred to going away to war (probably in World War I) and "quack, quack, quack" was gunfire.

I'm entirely sue I've misread it.
